Front yard raised bed

We had strawberry plants growing in this raised bed at the front yard but we had decided to grow something more permanent like asparagus. So yesterday I planted 21 asparagus crowns 20 cm deep in the soil. They won't grow till spring so the bed still looked bare. So I decided to plant some herbs and quick growing vegs over the winter.

I planted some coriander, italian parsley, white pak choy, spring onions and mini cos lettuce just to fill up the empty surface before the asparagus spears sprout through the ground in spring. The veggies are planted a little close than recommended so they will be over crowded when they mature. We might just harvest them before they get too big.

The broad beans live for another day.

I was going to pull out all my broad beans after months of growing and they're not producing beans. But just as I was about to pull the first plant out I found some pods growing underneath all those flowers and leaves. I think I will let them be and hopefully this wasn't a waste of time. The flowers are nice to look at but I didn't grow them for the flowers. I want to eat some broad beans please!

Bellis Perennis

Plant of the week today is the Bellis Perennis or commonly known as the English Daisy. Years ago I bought a few of these but they died off when the weather warmed up because they don't like the heat. Then a year ago I found a couple of them sprouting out of the lawn so I transplanted them into a garden bed so they won't get mowed down by the lawn mower. I pretty much left them to their own devises so only one survived and its doing well this year. Go forth and multiply little daisy.
